Saturday marks World Autism Awareness Day, which aims to raise public understanding and support for those with autism. Symptoms can include a lack of empathy and problems with non-verbal communication.
In China, more than ten million people suffer from the disorder. Of them, over two million are children aged under 14. Authorities say, among these, 600-thousand are pre-school children.
Experts say about 70 percent of kids with autism are taken care of by their mothers. And more than half of the families say they can't afford the costs of rehabilitation education.
Authorities believe autism affects about one percent of the total population of China, similar to the rate of other countries.
