An oval blue diamond has shattered Asia's jewelry auction record at Sotheby's Spring Sales in Hong Kong.
This allegedly flawless blue diamond weighs 10.1 carats, and was mined in South Africa. It was sold to an anonymous phone bidder at 31.8 million U.S. dollars, as soon as it went under the hammer.
The world auction record for any diamond or gemstone was set in 2015, when a 12.03-carat cushion-shaped blue diamond was sold in Geneva for nearly 50 million US dollars.
