Three Chinese, minus Peng Shuai, enter directly into French Open main draw

Zhang Shuai, Zheng Saisai and Wang Qiang have earned their spots in the main draw of women's singles at the May 22-June 5 French Open, while the U.S. Open semifinalist Peng Shuai failed.

According to an official list announced by the Federation of French Tennis (FFT) on Thursday, 104 male and 108 female tennis players have been given direct acceptance into the main draws.

Of the 108 women player announced Thursday, there are the world No. 63 Zhang Shuai of China, as well as her compatriots Zheng Saisai (64) and Wang Qiang (88).

Peng Shuai, a former Grand Slam doubles winner, has dropped to the 464th in the current WTA world rankings due to injury.

The Roland Garros tournament will have the men's and women's singles draw made up of each 128 players, including eight wildcards apiece to be named at a later date.

Among the 104 players entered directly into the draw for the men's singles are the 97 best players in the ATP rankings as of 11th April 2016.

Added to these are 7 players with a protected ranking, namely Juan Martin Del Potro, Florian Mayer, Janko Tipsarevic, Brian Baker, Andreas Haider-Maurer, Thanasi Kokkinakis and Dmitry Tursunov.

In the women's draw, three players have a protected ranking out of the 108 players entered directly into the draw, with three top 108 players in the WTA rankings, Maria Sharapova (9th), Flavia Pennetta (12th) and Ajla Tomljanovic (107th), will not be taking parts.

Eleven French players go directly into the men' s singles draw, while four local favorite in the women's singles draw.
