Snow fell on Sunday in Chongli district of north China's Zhangjiakou, the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics ski venue, while the highest temperature of Zhangjiakou area climbed to 22 degrees Celsius.
The Genting Resort Secret Garden, one of the 2022 Games venues, has received a snowfall of 2.9 millimeters, 1.2 millimeters higher than that in the urban area of Chongli, according to local meteorological authorities.
"Chongli has its own climate characteristics due to the mountainous landscape. Judging by previous record, even when other areas of Zhangjiakou see no snowfall, Chongli can still expect snow," said Liu Jianjun, who has been working in Chongli's weather bureau for three decades.
Chongli's ski season lasts over 150 days from the end of October to the next April.
In the just ended snow season, Chongli received 2.185 million tourists for an increase of 30 percent after Beijing and Zhangjiakou won their co-bid last July.
