The title of "Tiantan" for the awards at the Beijing Film Festival means "Temple of Heaven". And it's up to an international jury to decide which films will receive this coveted prize.
The chairman of this year's jury is American film director and producer Brett Ratner. He will decide alongside six other judges, all from different backgrounds within the film industry.
Ratner said he is expecting a lively exchange of views .
"A good argument is always good, I think in my opinion, because it inspires thought. I think we're going to have a lot of interesting discussions. But all of the films that were selected are of the highest quality, and are just really well-made films. So it's not going to be an easy task," Brett Ratner said.
Within the next couple of days, the seven judges will select the 15 films that will receive 'Temple of Heaven' awards.
"We as film makers understand how difficult it is to make a movie, and how much effort and time go into it. So I think us all being filmmakers, we will take it very seriously, about the process and giving an award. Because we know how meaningful it is to receive an award," Brett Ratner said.
Among the seven judges is Chinese actress Xu Qing, who is from Beijing. She says the festival has played an important role in her own career.
"As a woman, actress, and filmmaker from Beijing, I feel honored to attend this kind of event. Since I am always discovering new ideas and concepts, I hope the different views and opinions expressed here will help benefit my future development within the film industry," Xu Qing said.
The festival runs until April 23.
