China will send around 25,000 fresh-college graduates to work in its towns and villages every year from 2016 to 2020.
College graduates will be assigned to education, farming, health care and poverty alleviation projects, according to the plan issued by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security.
According to a notice published in recent days, the plan is part of measures to achieve China's goal of building a moderately prosperous society by 2020.
The plan called for training of at least five days for those joining the initiative.
A minimum wage will also be put in place. In addition, central-government grants of up to 35,000 yuan will be awarded to the graduates, the circular said.
The circular also called for preferential policies for college graduates accepted onto the program to help them start businesses after they finish their contracts.
The plan is the third of its kind since 2006. In the past decade, 276,000 college graduates have joined the program.
