The disappearance of a Chinese tourist in New Zealand has sparked police inquiries in both countries amid concerns over her mental wellbeing.
Wu Yaqin, 60, entered New Zealand with a tour group on Sunday and was staying in a hotel near Auckland Airport when she left there on Wednesday morning and failed to return, said a statement from the New Zealand Police on Thursday.
"Yaqin Wu had made comments to members of the tour group that have caused police to hold fears for her mental wellbeing," said the statement.
Police had made enquiries throughout much of Thursday and a Police ethnic liaison officer had been in constant contact with Wu's family back in China.
Search and rescue teams had scoured the area around the hotel, including nearby parks and reserves.
Wu spoke no English and was not believed to know anyone in New Zealand.
