Women's world number one Liu Shiwen claimed her fourth Asian Cup title when she outclassed teammate Li Xiaoxia 4-1 (11-8, 11-9, 9-11, 14-12, 11-3) in the 2016 Nakheel table tennis Asian Cup final here on Saturday.
Defending champion Feng Tianwei secured a bronze by defeating veteran Tie Yana from Hong Kong, China, 4-0 (11-7, 11-3, 11-4, 11-6).
"The victory came from my strong ambition that I want to win," said Liu, who had previously won the continental event in 2010, 2012 and 2013.
Liu, who was dressed in black and pink, kept Li on the run by quickly switching sides to overcome Li's height advantage.
"I always tries to adapt to my opponent. This was not my best play, and I shall not rest, in every tournament I can improve. But I fulfilled all my expectation for the Asian Cup," Liu said.
Li, the double winner of singles and team events at the 2012 London Olympics, shrugged off the defeat. "I have to accept the result. The Rio Olympic Games is my ultimate goal," she said.
China's Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates Chang Hua presented the medals for Liu and Li at the awarding ceremony in the Zabeel hall of Dubai World Trade Center, where hundreds of Chinese fans chanted "China, China" all the time.
