The Indonesian government has set a target of victory in the 29th Thomas Cup tournament and among the top-six in the 26th Uber Cup tournament in Jiangsu province of China this month, a minister said on Tuesday evening.
"On Thomas Cup, we expect to bring home the trophy....and on Uber Cup, among the top six is good," Indonesian Youth and Sport Minister Imam Nahrawi said at the State Palace.
Both Indonesian men and women badminton teams met with Indonesian President Joko Widodo at the palace on Tuesday as they will leave for China on Wednesday.
President Widodo told the players that this championship is good momentum for the awakening of Indonesia's badminton achievement.
"I am optimistic all Indonesian players can bring back Indonesia's victory in the world's badminton arena. We all expect all the players can do their best in the championship," President Widodo said.
"My feeling is that we will win," he added.
China, Japan and India are the toughest opponents for Indonesian team in the tournament that will be held in Kunshan sport center, Mr. Nahrawi cited.
Indonesia has for 13 times won Thomas Cup tournament and 3 times got victory in Uber Cup championship.
