China's political advisors discussed city planning during a bi-weekly consultation session on Thursday.

Members of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee agreed that city planning work is of vital importance to cities' development and the lives of residents.

The political advisors suggested that city planning work should be conducted strictly according to the law, and the public should be engaged in carrying out planning.

They also stressed coordination and consistency between overall planning in city development and use of land.

The review and approval process in city planning should be scientifically designed, according to session participants. They also made suggestions on planning of underground city facilities, cultural heritage protection and traffic congestion solutions.

Yu Zhengsheng, chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, presided over the seminar and gave a speech at the event.
