A selection of Pixar films will be featured during the 19th annual Shanghai International Film Festival this year, Shanghai organizers and Disney/Pixar announced on Friday.
The selection will show 6 Pixar classics – "Finding Nemo," "Monsters, Inc.," "WALL•E," "The Incredibles," "Ratatouille" and "Up." Of the six, "Monsters, Inc." and "WALL•E" will have their first theatrical screenings ever in China.
It is also notable that "Finding Nemo" will be played again 13 years after its debut and pave the way for its upcoming and long-awaited sequel "Finding Dory," which will debut in China and the United States on June 17.
Pixar Animation Studios began in 1979 as the Graphics Group, part of the computer division of Lucasfilm before it became a corporation in 1986 with funding from Apple Inc. co-founder Steve Jobs, who became its majority shareholder. The Walt Disney Company bought Pixar in 2006 at a price of US$7.4 billion.
The studio has earned 15 Academy Awards, 7 Golden Globe Awards, and 11 Grammy Awards, and its feature films have made over US$9.7 billion worldwide.
The Pixar film "Monsters University" opened the 16th Shanghai International Film Festival in 2013.
The 19th annual Shanghai International Film Festival will be held from June 11 - 19, 2016. Besides the Pixar selection, there will also be several special screening selections this year, including "Tribute to Masters," "Classic 007 Films Screening," "Oscar Film Panorama," "Jackie Chan Action Movie Week," "New Works of Renowned Japanese Directors," "Korean Films," "Retrospective of Recent Works of Woody Allen," "4K Restored Classic Film Panorama" and others.
