A 33-year-old man who allegedly killed a four-year-old girl with a kitchen knife on a street in Taipei in March has been charged with homicide, said prosecutors.
Prosecutors have asked for the death penalty for the man named only as Wang.
According to media reports, the girl was on the way to a subway station with her mother on March 28 when Wang, who was on the lookout for a victim, stabbed her in the back. She died at the scene. Wang was seized by local people and then arrested by the police. The suspect has a history of drug abuse.
The case sparked outrage on the island.
A psychiatric evaluation report showed Wang was in a normal mental state and was not under the influence of drugs at the time of the crime.
