The China-Myanmar Paukphaw Friendship Foundation was set up here Wednesday to be mainly used in implementation of Myanmar's livelihood project, enhancement of Chinese language education and mutual understanding between the youths of the two countries as well as pushing the religious exchange between the two peoples.
The establishment of the foundation was announced at a reception to mark the 66th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Speaking at the reception, Chinese Ambassador Hong Liang said the day when the diplomatic relations were established between China and Myanmar is important to the friendship between the two countries and the bilateral ties.
Over the past 66 years, despite major changes in international situation and domestic changes from the two countries, the China-Myanmar relations have as always maintained steady development, attributing to the abiding by the five principles of peaceful existence and the deep paukphaw friendship between the two peoples, the Chinese ambassador said.
Noting that currently China is pushing forward reform and opening and Myanmar is striving for its transition, the ambassador said the two countries are facing many opportunities and challenges, thus urging the two sides to maintain the healthy and steady development of the bilateral ties under the new situation.
At the reception, Myanmar Minister of the Office of State Counselor U Kyaw Tint Swe extended congratulation on the successful holding of the China-Myanmar Paukphaw Friendship Day for the first ever time.
At the function, Ambassador Hong also announced the set-up of the "China-Myanmar friendship School Network" and the "China-Myanmar Friendship Scholarship" to encourage the development of vocational education.
