In northwest China, scorching temperatures are grilling the city of Turpan in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. Weather authorities recorded a high temperature of 45 degrees Celsius on Sunday, which is quite rare during the month of June.
That prompted authorities to issue its first red weather alert of high temperatures in the region this year. Turpan has been experiencing a strong heatwave over the past ten days, and that would continue for one more week.
At the city's most renowned tourist attraction called "Flaming Mountains", the temperature even hit 69 degrees Celsius on Sunday afternoon. But that just brought more tourists who wanted to try extreme heat.
