The Ministry of Civil Affairs said on Monday that it will push NGOs to hire spokespersons to regularly brief the public.

NGOs should quickly respond to public concerns about issues related to their practice through press conferences or briefings, said An Ning, deputy chief of the ministry's NGO division.

Many NGOs have not done enough to disseminate information about their activities and address misunderstanding, An said.

The ministry will push big NGOs, such as trade associations and foundations qualified to raise funds from the general public, to hire spokespersons and give regular press briefings by the end of this year.

Other organizations registered at the ministry or provincial civil affairs departments were advised to adopt the practice by the end of 2017.

The ministry will publish the contact details of the first group of NGO spokespersons by the end of this year and organize training programs for them.
