Chinese Vice Premier Wang Yang and Russian Deputy Prime Minster Dmitry Rogozin held a meeting in Huangshan, east China's Anhui Province, on Sunday and Monday.
The meeting was held prior to Russian President Vladimir Putin's visit to China, which is scheduled for June 25.
During Putin's visit, President Xi Jinping and Putin will lay out new plans for the development of bilateral relations as well as cooperation between the two sides in various fields, said Wang.
He noted that Premier Li Keqiang and Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev will hold the regular prime ministers' meeting in the latter half of the year.
He called on the two sides to push forward cooperation in major areas, including the economy and trade, nuclear energy, aerospace and aviation, agriculture, construction of cross-border transportation channels, and satellite navigation.
He also underlined the importance of joint research and development on long-range wide-body jets and heavy-lift helicopters.
Rogozin said Russia has always viewed China as a reliable strategic cooperative partner.
He said Russia is willing to speed up cooperation with China on big projects to advance pragmatic cooperation between the two countries.
