A Tibetan folk song and dance drama, co-created by an international team including German composer Klaus Badelt and American Chinese choreographer and dancer Yin Mei, will kick off its nationwide tour in China on August 3 in Beijing, organizers announced at a press conference in the capital on Wednesday.
Titled Yuan Meng (Dreams), the drama is based on real people and events that took place during the construction of the Beijing-Tibet Railway. The story follows a reporter from outside Tibet who is saved by some locals from a storm and later spends years searching for a doctor to treat a sick Tibetan woman.
Known for composing music for Hollywood films such as Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl and Constantine, Badelt visited Tibet to compose music for the drama, which was later recorded by the UK's Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
The drama, which premiered in October, will tour the nation in part to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the opening of the Beijing-Tibet Railway.
A total of 50 performances in cities such as Nanjing, Wuhan, Taiyuan, Chongqing and Shenzhen have been scheduled for the tour.
According to Zhang Yuan - CEO of Kalavinka, the company behind the drama - the team's goal is to make the drama understandable, affordable and enjoyable.
"It is for those who have aided the development of Tibet but now cannot go there anymore due to old age, for those who once lived there and still recall the memories and for those who haven't gone yet but wish to," Zhang said at the press conference.
