China will not resort to the threat of force, nor will it "flaunt its military power on others' doorsteps at the drop of a hat," vowed Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), on Friday.
"Flaunting power everywhere will not reflect strength and it will not scare anyone," Xi said at a rally in Beijing marking the 95th founding anniversary of the CPC.
The Party chief said China pursues a military strategy of "active defense," with the strategic goal of building a strong military commensurate with China's international standing and interests in security and development.
Xi also underscored the CPC's leadership of the military, pledging to cultivate a new generation of troops that are capable and courageous and build an army that follows the party, can win wars and has a fine work ethic.
