Online series Gogh The Starry Night, coproduced by Chinese online streaming platform Sohu TV and South Korean film company Kim Jong Hyuk Studio, marks a fresh attempt to explore new forms of collaboration between Chinese and foreign producers.
At the launch part for the series on Thursday, Ma Ke, general manager of Sohu's TV & Movie Copyrights Center, said that bringing in South Korean studios to provide high-quality content for Chinese online streaming platforms has the potential to be a new way to enrich the online video market.
Starring South Korean stars such as Park Shin-hye and Lee Jong-suk, who became known to Chinese viewers through the popular 2014 South Korean TV series Pinocchio, Gogh The Starry Night is expected by many in the industry to become a hot topic online as its summer release means student viewers should be the main audience demographic.
Focusing on romance in the workplace, this original online drama is also looking to bring in more female viewers.
The first episode of the series will be made available on Sohu TV on Saturday.
