Senior Chinese official Yu Zhengsheng met with a youth delegation from Taiwan on Tuesday, encouraging them to have a better understanding of the mainland.
Young people carry the burden of hope for the future, said Yu, chairman of the National Committee of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the top political advisory body.
Compatriots from both the mainland and Taiwan belong to the Chinese nation and share common history and culture, Yu said, adding that the young Taiwanese people should visit the mainland more often and have a better understanding of it.
"I believe that young Taiwanese people have self-identity as part of the Chinese nation. Its great rejuvenation needs common efforts from people across the Taiwan Strait," he said.
The delegation includes 90 students from higher learning institutes across the Taiwan island. They visited Jilin Province and Beijing.
