The lone goal of attacking midfielder Son Jaehyeok helped South Korea edge past China 1-0 in the second round of the 2016 Silk Road Cup youth football tournament on Wednesday.
South Korea took the lead in the 22nd minute when Son unleashed the strike towards the far corner after short passes among his teammates.
Chinese winger Yu Junwei almost equalized for the hosts when he missed a golden opportunity in the 38th minute.
Enjoying the cheers of 20,000 supporters, China began to dominate the field in the second half. However, it was not a lucky day for the hosts as their efforts fell short.
"I'm satisfied with my boys' performance. They were a little bit nervous at the beginning, and the opponents took the lead," said Wen Zhijun, the coach of China's U-17 national team.
In the other match, Tajikistan defeated Turkmenistan 3-2.
This is the second time that Weinan held the round-robin tournament which features the U-17 national teams of China, South Korea, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan.
