Chinese Super League side Hangzhou Greentown club officially terminated the contract with Australian international Tim Cahill on Thursday.
The 37-year-old striker has played three consecutive World Cup finals and scored more World Cup goals than any other Asian players in history. He joined China's Shanghai Greenland in 2015 and scored 11 goals in 28 games.
At the beginning of this season, Cahill joined Hanghzou Greentown. Despite only scoring 4 goals in 17 games, the Australian legend still played a very important role in the team.
"He wins fans' hearts with highly professional and fully devoted spirit. We understand that he wants more time with his families. With the respect of his will, we decided to terminate the contract early," said the club through Weibo, a Chinese version of Twitter.
