A Foreign Ministry spokesperson said Saturday that China hopes Turkey can restore stability and order as soon as possible after the military coup attempt in the country.
"China is paying close attention to the situation in Turkey," Lu Kang added in a press release.
A military statement in Turkish media on Friday said the armed forces had seized power in the country, but President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said early on Saturday that the coup attempt had failed.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry and Chinese embassy and consulates in Turkey have not received any reports of injuries of Chinese nationals and have launched an emergency response mechanism, said Lu.
