Syria's Foreign Ministry renewed on Wednesday the Syrian government's support to China regarding the South China Sea issue.
In a statement carried by state news agency SANA, the ministry said Syria support China's sovereignty over the South China Sea territories in tandem with the international law.
"Emanating from its commitment to the international charters and keenness to stand by the side of its friends, Syria stresses its backing to China in supporting its sovereignty in the South China Sea," the ministry said.
It added that resolving the disputes in that region should be considered through negotiations and consultations among the concerned countries to reach a solution accepted by all parties.
Earlier this month, an arbitration tribunal in The Hague rejected China's claims to economic rights across large swathes of the South China Sea, ruling in favor of the Philippines in that maritime dispute.
China rejected the ruling, branding it as null, void and a farce.
China has recently stressed that the only way out of the dispute is through bilateral talks and friendly dialogue, warning the Philippines that it does not accept or recognize any decision by the tribunal.
