Beijing health authorities said on Wednesday that a new case of H7N9 infection had been reported and the patient was in a critical condition.
The patient, a 36-year-old male from Langfang City in Hebei Province, is suspected to have had contact with live poultry before contracting the disease, Beijing Center for Disease Prevention and Control said in a statement.
The patient is the third confirmed H7N9 bird flu patient in Beijing this year.
H7N9 was first reported to have infected humans in March 2013 in China. Cases usually occur in winter and spring. While a large-scale outbreak is unlikely, sporadic infections have been reported.
Health experts told the public to avoid contact with diseased poultry and take necessary precautions.
