Most Brazilians believe the upcoming Rio Olympic Games will bring more losses to the country than benefits, according to an Ibope poll released on Wednesday.
According to the poll, 60 percent of interviewees believe the Olympic Games will bring more losses to the country. This pessimistic perception is more acute than in the 2014 FIFA World Cup, when 40 percent of Brazilians believed the tournament would bring more losses than benefits.
When it comes to the impact on the host city, Brazilians are divided: 47 percent say they believe Rio will have more losses than benefits for hosting the Olympic Games and 46 percent expect more benefits.
The poll was carried out between July 14 and 18, with 2,002 people from all over Brazil. The margin of error is two points.
