A middle school teacher is singing the blues after he was busted tutoring kids in a KTV parlor in Hebei Province.
Zhuang Xianhua, a teacher at Taoshan Middle School in Handan, held classes in the parlor to avoid being caught as regulations forbid teachers from charging for extra classes over school vacations, according to education officials.
Parents voiced their disapproval upon discovering that Zhuang had been holding his classes in a KTV lounge.
"Are you serious? This is unacceptable," said a mother surnamed Li, who has signed up her son and daughter for the all-day classes, which charge 50 yuan ($7.5) an hour for one-on-one tutoring.
The working mother arrived to find her kids studying on low tables under disco lights.
She took photos and notified authorities.
Zhuang was given a failing grade on his annual ethics inspection, the Guantao county education bureau announced Wednesday on WeChat.
He contested the penalty. "I happen to be a teacher who enjoys helping students out. That's it," said Zhuang.
