World Cup winners China lost to two-time Olympic defending champions Brazil 4-1 in a friendly match on Thursday.
Both teams agreed to play to five sets regardless of the results and the Brazilian women, who have captured consecutive gold medals at the Beijing Games and London Games in 2008 and 2012, prevailed 25-22, 25-13, 25-15, 25-20 and 10-15.
The two teams rotated their players in the warm-up clash ahead of the Rio Games women' s volleyball competitions which are set to kick off on Saturday.
China will start their Olympic campaign in pool B Saturday morning against Netherlands with Brazil to take on Cameroon.
