Despite the end of her term in office this month, outgoing Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia Bu Jianguo said she remained committed to bringing more tourists from her country to Cambodia and was even willing to be a tourism emissary for the Kingdom, local media reported on Friday.
"Chinese people treat Cambodia as China's good friend and that's why we see more and more Chinese tourists visiting the country," the ambassador was quoted by the Khmer Times as saying to Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Sok An, who is also minister for the Office of the Council of Ministers, during a meeting on Thursday.
Bu hoped to see more tourists from China visiting Cambodia and hoped the numbers would be much larger than 2015.
She said that she would continue supporting Cambodia, even if she was soon no longer ambassador, and added she was willing to be a tourism emissary for the Kingdom.
Last year, 694,712 tourists from China visited the Southeast Asian nation and this was a 14.5 percent increase from 2014.
For his part, Sok An commended Bu for her commitment to Cambodia and also praised her efforts to further promote good ties between China and the Kingdom.
"We have seen the relationship between China and Cambodia blossom and as it becomes stronger, we hope there will be more Chinese investment flowing our way," Sok An was quoted as saying by the newspaper.
