The Rio Olympic emblem was lit in Beijing National Stadium, also known as the Bird's Nest, on the night of Aug 4 to celebrate the upcoming opening ceremony of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
It's the 30th anniversary of the sister cities establishment of Beijing and Rio de Janeiro, also being a crucial witness to the everlasting friendly relationship between the two Olympic hosts. Other major cities worldwide will join in by lighting their landmark buildings as well. The activity is expected to encourage the world's people to celebrate the Olympic spirit.
One of the ceremony's sponsors, the Embassy of Brazil in China, promoted the activity online by inviting people to post photos on Weibo.
