To fulfill the curiosity of many local children and teenagers who are on summer vacation, many exhibitors in Shanghai have decided to extend working hours.
Wide-awake owls and active bats are not something people can usually see during the day-time. But now, residents in Shanghai are thrilled by the opportunity to visit the Shanghai Natural Wild Insect Kingdom late into the night. Located in the middle of Lujiazui, the museum has recently decided to extend its opening hour to 8.30 p.m.
"Many creatures here are nocturnal. So tourists may not see them move in the morning. For example night owls and bats, they only fly during the night," said Gu Jun, deputy manager of SH Natural Wild Insect Kingdom.
The year-round insect exhibition features more than 300 types of insects and creatures from around the world, including Madagascar and some South American countries. Since it was built in 2001, it has served as a fun space to learn about wildlife for many curious city kids and teenagers.
"We live close by, so we often come here. I told my daughter before that some animals sleep in the morning and come out at night, and she gets to see it herself today."
The evening exhibition, which charges separately from general admission, will be open to public until August 25th.
