The International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) Museum recently broke ground at the Shanghai Expo site near the Huangpu River, following ITTF's announcement to move the museum from Lausanne, Switzerland, to Shanghai.
It is the first professional sports museum of international level introduced to China, according to the Jiefang Daily.
The site is also home to the new China Table Tennis Museum, which is now under construction. The two museums will be open to the public in October 2017. Currently, ITTF Museum has 7,000 exhibits and China Table Tennis Museum features 5,000.
Shanghai will join forces with ITTF through the platform of the museum to build an ITTF study center, ITTF techniques and tactics data center, ITTF documents center and even an ITTF Asia Pacific Office, to increase the global influence of Shanghai.
