Heavy rain has hit southwest China's Jiangcheng County, Yunnan Province, leaving one person missing, local authorities said Sunday.
The rain started Friday and by 4 p.m. Saturday had damaged 36 roads and 97 houses, causing direct economic losses of nearly 8 million yuan (about 1.2 million U.S.dollars).
A worker, surnamed Pan, was washed away by mountain torrents at 3:30 a.m. Saturday when he was working in a banana field, according to the county government.
Rescue efforts are ongoing.
