An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 4.9 rocked Japan's Kanto area at 1:28 p.m. local time, Japan Meteorological Agency said Wednesday.
The temblor was centered in the southern part of the Ibaraki prefecture, with the epicenter at a latitude of 36.2 degrees north and a longitude of 140.1 degrees east and at depth of 50 km.
The earthquake logged 4 on the Japanese seismic intensity scale which peaks at 7 in Ibaraki prefecture and some other areas, and could be felt in Tokyo.
So far no major damage or injuries were reported, and no tsunami warning has been issued.
