Shanghai prosecutors have arrested the man suspected of being involved in an explosion at the city's Pudong International Airport in June which injured five people, media reported Monday.

The suspect, surnamed Zhou, 29, allegedly threw a homemade bottle explosive at a check-in counter in the airport's Terminal 2 on June 12, the Xinhua News Agency reported.

He then took a knife from his backpack, cut his neck and fell to the ground, Shanghai police said. Zhou was rushed to a hospital in critical condition.

He said he wanted to create a scene before committing suicide because he despised himself for accomplishing nothing, news site thepaper.cn reported on Monday.

Concerned that the explosion would cause panic if he threw the bottle into a crowd, Zhou chose the check-in counter where there were fewer passengers.

He said he used gunpowder from pyrotechnics and mixed it with broken glass, and made three explosive devices.

He worked in Kunshan, East China's Jiangsu Province, a province beside Shanghai, and is a native of Southwest China's Guizhou Province, the report said.

The migrant worker often gambled on the illegal lottery. He spent his earnings on prostitutes and invited friends for dinner. When he lost, he turned to friends and relatives for money.

After the incident, some people discovered a note on his social network, saying he would rather die crazy than become a "walking dead."
