Twenty-eight shows from abroad and 22 shows from home will be part of the 18th China Shanghai International Arts Festival, which will run from October 12 to November 15.
Since it first began in 1999, the festival has evolved to become one of top art festivals in China.
This year marks the 400th anniversary of playwrights Shakespeare and China's Tang Xianzu's deaths. In commemoration, art troupes from around the world have been invited to the Shanghai festival to present works from Shakespeare, such as Romeo and Juliet presented by Russia's Mariinsky Ballet and a performance of A Midsummer Night's Dream by Monaco's Monte-Carlo Ballet.
Meanwhile, the Shanghai Kunqu Opera Troupe will perform Tang's last work The Tale of Handan.
When it comes to music, concerts by Charles Dutoit and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and Michael Tilson Thomas and the San Francisco Symphony are all on the list.
The festival will also feature several theme events, including the Fujian Culture Week, the Hungary Culture Week and the Taipei Music Festival.
