Xu Jianyi, former chairman of one of China's largest auto producers FAW Group Corporation, stood on public trial Thursday for taking bribes.
The Beijing No.1 Intermediate People's Court handled the case, and the Beijing No.1 People's Procuratorate of Beijing Municipality charged Xu with helping others in business operation, promotions, and directly or indirectly accepting assets worth 12.19 million yuan (1.83 million U.S. dollars) from 2000 to 2013.
Xu has served as vice general manager, general manager and chairman of FAW Group Corporation, as well as being a member of the standing committee of Communist Party of China (CPC) Jilin provincial committee and Party chief of Jilin.
Xu and his lawyer questioned the evidence submitted by prosecutors.
In his final statement, Xu pleaded guilty and expressed his remorse.
