A young man in Chongqing municipality broadcast himself poking a hornet's nest live online to attract more viewers, but before long he was severely stung and sent to a hospital's intensive care unit (ICU) on Tuesday, the Chongqing Evening News reports.
The 27-year-old, named Jiangbo, has been a renowned live-streaming host for three months. Inspired by his friend being stung by a hornet, he decided to make a two-episode live show about poking a hornet's nest.
In the evening of October 4, Jiang wore a motor helmet and a raincoat before standing on a crane to approach the 30-meter-tall tree for the hornets' nest. However, during the live-stream, he cried for help and shortly fell into a coma. Stung 37 times by hornets, Jiang was sent to a hospital nearby and later transferred to the ICU.
Jiang's friend said on Saturday that Jiang was still in the ICU, and the medical treatment was estimated to cost more than 10,000 yuan ($1,500).
Jiang and three other friends began to run the live-streaming business three months ago, and earned an income of 3,000 yuan per person, each month.
The newspaper reported that Jiang had made several live videos about taking a hornet's nest before this accident, which earned him 15,000 fans. The live show of this accident has been viewed 11,000 times, according to Jiang's live-streaming account online.
