Yang Dongliang, former head of the State Administration of Work Safety, has been charged with corruption, according to the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP).
The Second Branch of Beijing Municipal People's Procuratorate filed a lawsuit against Yang with Beijing No. 2 Intermediate People's Court after finishing its investigation.
According to the indictment, by taking advantage of his posts as Tianjin vice mayor and head of the State Administration of Work Safety, Yang sought interests for others and accepted huge amounts of assets, as well as embezzling public assets.
The procuratorate said Yang should be held criminally accountable.
Yang was expelled from the Communist Party of China (CPC) and removed from public office in October last year.
He was placed under investigation in August last year, days after a warehouse storing dangerous chemicals exploded in Tianjin port, claiming more than 160 lives.
