Swedish furniture retailer IKEA recently ruled that Shanghai customers must make a purchase at the store's cafeteria, before they're allowed to be seated there, the Xinmin Evening News reported.
The decision follows numerous problems brought on by throngs of local seniors who gathered there daily for matchmaking events or get-togethers.
Last week IKEA placed a notice at the entrance of its dining hall, which reads that "the seniors, who IKEA previously tolerated despite rarely making any actual purchases, brought their own food and drinks, occupied the seats of paying customers, were noisy, spat on the floor and even quarreled."
However, according to the Xinmin news report, the new rule didn't stop them from returning to IKEA for their hangouts, as they were still seen there as of Tuesday. Apparently the crafty grannies found a loophole by buying IKEA's 10 yuan ($1.49) snacks.
