Taiwan's leader must decide in which direction she wishes to take cross-Straits relations, the State Council's Taiwan Affairs Office said on Wednesday.
"Regarding cross-Straits relations, whether we sit down and talk or confront each other is up to Taiwan's leader," office spokesman An Fengshan said at a news conference, responding to Taiwan leader Tsai Ing-wen's speech on Monday.
"Different paths lead to different futures. Upholding the 1992 Consensus and maintaining peaceful development, or insisting on separation," An said, adding that Tsai must make the right decision on important matters.
