Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Public Security has tightened its supervision of online live-streaming platforms since July, cleaning up about 1,000 illegal Webcasts, including pornographic and violent content as well as fraud and gambling sites, thepaper.cn reported.
Live-streaming account holders are also now required to use real-name authentication and stricter verification, such as uploading a picture of his or her ID card. Only after the information is approved can the person successfully register an account.
Thus far over 450,000 live-streaming broadcasters have been approved, while 1,000 accounts have failed to pass the real-name authentication system.
The public security bureau has also set up a blacklist to deal with Webcasters who produce content that violates the new regulations and laws.
Official statistics show that as of this month over one million live-streaming accounts are on the blacklist.
