Following are some facts and timeline about the two documents published Wednesday by the Communist Party of China (CPC).
The documents, namely the norms of political life in the Party under current conditions, and the regulation on intra-Party supervision, were approved at the sixth plenary session of the 18th CPC Central Committee last week and will guide the political life and supervision within the Party.
The norms, in 12 parts, stress consolidating ideals and beliefs, keeping to the Party's basic line, safeguarding the authority of the CPC Central Committee, and maintaining close ties with the people.
The regulation, which consists of eight chapters and 47 articles, aims to uphold the CPC leadership, strengthen Party building, promote the comprehensive and strict governance of the Party and maintain the Party's status and purity.
-- In January 2014, Xi Jinping, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, gives an instruction on strengthening and standardizing political life within the Party under current conditions.
-- In January 2015 and January 2016, Xi clarifies the intra-Party supervision system, at the fifth and sixth plenary sessions of the 18th CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection.
-- In February 2016, the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee decides to study the issue of "comprehensive, strict Party governance" at the sixth plenary session of the 18th CPC Central Committee.
-- On March 1, a drafting group of the two documents is established with Xi as the head, and Liu Yunshan and Wang Qishan, members of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, as deputy heads.
-- On Aug. 5, drafts of the two documents are sent to various departments and regions to solicit suggestions.
-- On Aug. 16, Xi presides over a symposium to solicit opinion from non-Communist personnel.
-- On Aug. 27, 1,955 opinions or suggestions are received and 30 percent of them accepted by the drafting group.
-- On Sept. 27, the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee hears a report on opinion received and decides to submit the revised version for review at the sixth plenary session of the 18th CPC Central Committee.
-- On Oct. 24, the sixth plenary session of the 18th CPC Central Committee opens. During the session, Xi presides over a meeting of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and reviews the documents based on previous revisions.
-- On Oct. 27, the sixth plenary session of the 18th CPC Central Committee concludes and the two documents are approved.
