Sohu TV's CEO Charles Zhang said the streaming platform will remake Hong Kong novelist Louis Cha's classic martial arts work The Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils into a streaming drama in 2017 as part of a long-term strategy to boost its self-produced content at Tuesday's Sohu World Conference held in Beijing.
According to Zhang at the annual promotion event, Sohu TV has performed well with some recent popular streaming dramas including WuXin: The Monster Killer and the latest Medical Examiner Dr. Qin. Since releasing the strategy for self-produced content in 2014, Sohu TV has started to produce entertainment shows and dramas as well as collaborating with local satellite TVs.
Zhang also said that streaming comedies will also be its focus, and it will stream the fifth season of signature comedy Diors Man in 2017.
As one of the largest platforms for American TV dramas in China, Sohu TV will renew the copyright for popular dramas like Fargo, 2 Broke Girls and Arrow.
