The development of electric vehicles cannot be stopped and intelligent driving can only be achieved step by step, CEO of German automaker BMW said on Thursday.
Harald Kruger made the remarks at an economic summit held by German newspaper Suddeutsche Zeitung, local media reported.
Every car manufacturer needs to have a share of electric automobiles by 2020 to contribute to the reduction of CO2, but it is "a marathon, half distance of which has still not been finished yet,"he said.
Autonomous driving will not be realized "at one stroke", and it will take some time before cars become completely autonomous, he said.
BMW has recently announced its goal to sell 100,000 electric cars next year, a 65 percent increase compared with that of 2016. Such electric cars include both pure electric cars and hybrid ones combining electricity and other types of power.
