The construction of Yanchong Expressway, a major transportation project for the 2022 Winter Olympic Games, will start by the end of this year and is expected to be completed in 2019, said China's Hebei provincial department of transportation on Saturday.
The 113-kilometer expressway will connect Beijing and Zhangjiakou, a co-host for holding some snow sports events.
The project, which will be implemented under the PPP model, is among a series of projects designed to upgrade the two cities' transportation.
Hebei, a province that surrounds Beijing, has rolled out a plan in a bid to improve Zhangjiakou's transportation infrastructure.
Besides the Yanchong Expressway, the plan also includes the construction of a high-speed railway between Beijing and Zhangjiakou and the expansion of the Zhangjiakou Airport.
Meanwhile, Hebei has vowed to complete all transportation projects relating to the Winter Games by 2020 with high standards.
Beijing, together with Zhangjiakou, won the right to host the Games at the 128th International Olympic Committee Session in Kuala Lumpur last year.
