A former vice mayor of a city in central China has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for accepting bribes totalling 4.7 million yuan (680,000 U.S. dollars), according to a local court.

Yiyang Intermediate People's Court convicted Li Zicheng, former vice mayor of Huaihua City, Hunan Province, of accepting bribes between 2008 and 2014 when he was Communist Party of China (CPC) chief of Yuanling and Xupu counties and vice mayor of Huaihua.

Li sought benefits for others in return for bribes, which he accepted personally or through his daughter Li Wenchu.

The court ruled that Li's personal assets, worth 1 million yuan, should be confiscated. His daughter was given a three-year suspended sentence and was fined 200,000 yuan.
