Only one person was rescued and seven remain missing after a fishing boat from northern Taiwan's Keelung capsized off Taipei on Friday evening, local media reported on Saturday.
One captain from Taiwan, five fishermen from Chinese mainland and two fishermen from Vietnam were onboard when the fishing boat was overturned by giant waves in the open waters of New Taipei City, local media reported.
Coast guard rescuers saved one mainland fisherman, surnamed Lin, on Saturday morning, but seven others were still missing.
Rescuers said on Saturday that rough sea made the search and rescue impossible, but the operation will continue on Sunday morning.
