China Movie Channel and HBO Asia announced on Wednesday in Beijing that two productions they co-produced – "Master of the Drunken Fist: Beggar So" and "Master of the Shadowless Kick: Wong Kei-Ying" – will debut during Christmas time.
Both movies tell the story of two legendary kungfu masters set at the end of the Qing Dynasty. The executive producer for two movies is Hong Kong film director and action choreographer Corey Yuen. The director is Guo Jianyong, who choreographed action scenes for the "Transporter" franchise.
It is the first time China Movie Channel has worked with international partners to make original TV movies, and it's also the first time HBO Asia has made Chinese kungfu productions.
"Master of the Drunken Fist: Beggar So," starring Cao Jun, will screen in prime time on Dec. 25, and "Master of the Shadowless Kick: Wong Kei-Ying," starring Sun Haoran, will debut on Dec. 26. The films can be watched on the digital pay-to-view channel for CHC HBO and HBO Asia. The CCTV-6 China Movie Channel and RED by HBO will screen the movies during prime time during Spring Festival in January next year.
