Two people suspected of robbing a Chinese student, who was fatally hit by a train when pursuing them, have been arrested by Roman police, the BBC reported Sunday.
Zhang Yao, 20, was struck and killed by a train on December 5 when chasing three muggers who had snatched her bag after she left a local immigration bureau.
Her body was discovered four days later in a bush near the tracks.
Zhang, a student at Rome's Academy of Fine Arts since March, was robbed just after she had renewed her residency permit at the bureau, located in one of the Italian capital's suburbs.
While giving chase, she called her friends and told them what had happened, saying she hoped she could get her documents back.
Footage from a local company's surveillance camera shows that Zhang was hit by the train while making the call.
The two suspects in custody reportedly live near the bureau and are 18 and 20 years old. A third suspect is still at large.
"How can a robbery take place in daylight and near a police station?" a spokesman for the Chinese community in Rome was quoted as saying by the BBC on December 10.
Yao Cheng, an official at the Chinese Embassy in Italy, on December 13 urged Roman police to speed up the investigation into the case and crack down on the criminals.
The safety of Chinese students studying abroad has sparked public concern in recent months, after several reports of them becoming victims of crime.
Li Yangjie, a 25-year-old Chinese student living in Dessau, eastern Germany, was raped and killed by a young German couple in May in a case which sparked outrage in China.
